History of the Bonfils Family

1870

Joseph BONFILS was forced into exile in Algeria where he met his future wife Honorine Dorveaux. It was Honorine who launched the agricultural farm in the Oran region with numerous vines. She planted relentlessly, without knowing that she was growing the Bonfils' heritage.

1875

1962

Arrival at Domaine du Lirou (Béziers) of Jean-Michel BONFILS

1978

As an experienced terroir selector, Jean-Michel BONFILS chose the Domaine de Cibadiès (Capestang) for the development of its slopes, offering sunshine adapted to each variety.

1990

On the initiative of Laurent, Jérôme and Olivier, the 5th generation of the family, Vignobles Bonfils is making a strategic shift to bottling, favouring a move upmarket in their wines.

2000

Acquisition of Château Vaugelas (Camplong d'Aude), the first AOP Corbières estate.

2010

International expansion, particularly in Asia, with the establishment of Comptoir Bonfils in Shanghai.

2011

Acquisition of Château Capitoul (Narbonne) in the La Clape PDO (appellation classified as "Grand Cru" in 2015) Development of the "wine tourism" activity with a major and strategic investment in the capital of Domaine & Demeure.

2012

Château l'Esparrou (Canet-en-Roussillon), in AOP Côtes du Roussillon, is one of the jewels in the crown of Vignobles Bonfils

2013

After two years of work, the Château Les Carrasses (Quarantes) opens its doors to the public and becomes the first upmarket wine tourism establishment of Vignobles Bonfils.

2014

Acquisition of Château Villerambert (Caunes-en-Minervois) in the Minervois PDO, an exceptional property with 11 types of terroir, including pink marble.

2016

Opening of a new wine tourism establishment: Château St-Pierre de Serjac (Puissalicon). On the vineyard side, the cellar masters play on the influence of the Faugères terroir and plant a wide variety of grape varieties.

2021

Respect for the environment and preservation of the architectural heritage is more than ever at the heart of the values of Vignobles Bonfils, with the reopening in early 2021 of the emblematic estate in La Clape: Château Capitoul.
